Coach Bill Mosey (Board Treasurer), Coach John Girard (President), Coach Steve Meyer (OYL Founder)
US Lacrosse 2020 Program Administrator of the Year
In what can only be called a "crowning achievement" for the Ocean Youth Lacrosse Program,
Coach John Girard, President of OYL has just been named 2020 US Lacrosse Program Administrator of the Year!!
On Sunday July 19th, Coach John Girard recieved the US Lacrosse award which is given to only one recipient nationwide! The award is given annually to "to an outstanding administrator of a league or program who runs a program of excellence that upholds the mission and vision of US Lacrosse." and should be in the next US Lacrosse magazine.
Through four years of tireless efforts in building up the OYL program, the award notes that Coach John has been "a strong and positive contributor to our community. John is an advocate for education of the game, highlights the importance of player and coach continuing education and the importance of providing an affordable program for all who wish to participate."
From ensuring all coaches are certified to making sure all players have access to equipment to holding clinics with pro players; Coach John has relentlesssly worked to build up the OYL program. Having worked with Coach John for many years, Coach Bill says, "There was a vision to build Ocean Youth Lacrosse into a strong, solid family which would set the foundation for years to come. What better recognition of those efforts than an award from US Lacrosse?? This is a win for everyone and something all players, parents and coaches should be proud of thanks to Coach John."
Coach John and Bill are retiring from the Board as their boys are going into high school. What were Coach John's parting words to those taking over the reigns? "Just remember at the end of the day, it's truly all about the kids"
Ocean Youth Lacrosse recently honored Coach Meyer for his commitment and dedication in starting the Ocean Youth Lacrosse program 12 years ago. Although he turned over the reigns a few years back, he has been a quiet behind the scenes advisor for the program. He truly is a revered as a “founding father” of lacrosse in Ocean. In recognition for his dedication to the sport and his community, he was presented with a mini-traditional lacrosse stick, hand made by Evan Cree of the Akwesasne Mohawk Indian tribe.
If you see Coach Steve at one of our practices, make sure to say hello and thank you!

During our recent Sunday Night Lights Program, Ocean Youth Lacrosse players received a visit from Mark Glicini of the CHAOS Lacrosse Club. "Glic" as he is known to his friends, a Premier Lacrosse League All-Star in 2019, provided pointers and even got into the drills with our boys. He graciously donated two of his own game used lacrosse heads and an autographed PLL lacrosse ball for prizes. Afterwards, it was autographs for all!
The best time to buy lacrosse equipment is in the off season. The best sales start LATE summer and go all the way up until end of December. Below are some recommendations on where to get the best sales/prices. If you have others, please share and we'll put them on our website.
Probably the best prices on the Internet. They have frequent specials (anywhere from 40-80% off retail prices) starting late summer going all the way through December. Recommendation is to create an account on the website and subscribe to get email notification of sales. The merchandise that goes on huge discount are usually models that were introduced several years prior.
There is an Lacrosse Unlimited in Red Bank. They usually carry the new releases of equipment so prices are usually full retail. But in the offseason, the website has some really good equipment that goes on sale.
